Two Nissan Tiidas bought in 2011, now missing, PAC grills Labour Ministry over GH¢223k ghost vehicles.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has questioned the Ministry of Labour and Employment over the non-existence of records and vehicles relating to a GH¢223,127 claim raised in the Auditor-General’s report on government arrears, including two Nissan Tiida vehicles allegedly acquired in 2011, which cannot be traced and supporting documents are not available. On May 18, the committee heard from Mary Ninson, Director of Finance of the Ministry, that the relevant records could not be traced and that only photocopied documents were obtained during verification, while some payments for price adjustments had accumulated interest due to delays communicated to the Ministry of Finance. She also said some documents for other assets such as air conditioners were missing and auditors could not receive feedback from relevant institutions. The committee also discussed a GH¢5.1 million Fair Wages and Salaries Commission project, of which GH¢4.3 million was certified as work done and a separate GH¢30,000 claim for price adjustments on Toyota Hilux pickups, which was also for accrued interest on late payments, awaiting a final decision.
