Women’s Development Bank gets company registration, awaits BoG licence, GH¢450m earmarked for 2026.
The Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has announced that the government has successfully registered the company established to operationalise the Women’s Development Bank, marking a significant step toward the launch of the initiative.
According to him, the project is currently awaiting an operating licence from the Bank of Ghana before it can commence full operations. He disclosed that the government allocated GH¢51.3 million in 2025 to support the intervention, with an additional GH¢450 million earmarked in the 2026 budget to facilitate its implementation and expansion.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, June 24, Mr. Ampem Nyarko stated that substantial preparatory work had already been completed toward the establishment of the bank.
“The company, WDB Ghana Limited, has been registered, and we are currently awaiting an operating licence from the Bank of Ghana to operationalise the Women’s Development Bank,” he told the House.
The initiative forms part of the government’s efforts to enhance financial inclusion and provide targeted support for women entrepreneurs and businesses across the country.
