Billionaire to Bankrupt? Senator Jim Justice Forced to Pay $5M in Back Taxes!

The Republican politician and former governor of West Virginia, Senator Jim Justice, has reached an agreement to pay more than $5 million (£3.9m) in delinquent taxes in the wake of a lawsuit brought up by the Internal Revenue Service, which alleges that he and his wife did not completely pay their taxes from 2009. After having managed the coal enterprise that was owned by his family, Justice joined the political arena. He subsequently served as governor from the year 2017 till he became a senator in 2025. The tax assessment that was carried out in 2015 was characterized by him as being “politically motivated,” and he drew a comparison between it and the problems that have been encountered by major corporations, such as the one headed by former President Trump. According to the Internal Revenue Service, the Justices have accumulated a total of $5.16 million in unpaid taxes and interest, which they have promised to pay back in full. However, the date for the return has not been defined. According to Forbes, Justice’s net worth plummeted from $1.9 billion in 2021 to “less than zero” by 2025. In addition to this, the couple is contending with other financial difficulties. These include liens totaling $1.4 million for sales taxes that were not paid at their resort, The Greenbrier, and over $8 million in additional liens from the Internal Revenue Service for various personal taxes that were not paid.
