THE LOYALTY OF OSAHEN ALEXANDER KWAMENA AFENYO-MARKIN.

Loyalty is not just a claim. It is a character trait revealed under pressure. In Ghana’s political history, past and present, Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has distinguished himself as a man whose loyalty is not situational, transactional, or convenient, but deeply rooted in principle, gratitude, and conviction. This defining trait has shaped his politics, his leadership style, and his relationships across the political divide.

In an era where many politicians quickly abandon allies at the slightest shift in power or public opinion, Hon. Afenyo-Markin has consistently demonstrated that he does not forget those who stood with him. His loyalty is calm, deliberate, and firm. He does not shout it; he lives it. He does not trade it; he protects it. That alone places him in a rare class of Ghanaian politicians whose personal values align with their public conduct.

One of the clearest examples of this enduring loyalty is his relationship with Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong. Through seasons of political tension, internal party contests, and shifting dynamics within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. Afenyo-Markin has remained consistent in tone and conduct. He has made it clear, publicly and privately, that friendship, once built on trust and shared struggle, must not be discarded because of ambition or momentary political advantage.

This posture was evident following the NPP presidential primaries in early 2026, when political lines hardened, and emotions ran high. At a time when many expected distancing and silence, Hon. Afenyo-Markin chose maturity. He reaffirmed respect, loyalty, and gratitude, while simultaneously placing party unity above personal interest. That balance loyal to people, loyal to party,  and loyal to principle is the mark of a true statesman.

But his loyalty goes beyond friendships. It is reflected in his commitment to the institutions of Parliament, his defense of democratic values, and his respect for party hierarchy and cohesion. As Minority Leader, he has proven that loyalty does not mean blind agreement; it means standing firm for what is right, even when it is uncomfortable.

History remembers politicians not only for policies, but for character. Osahen Afenyo-Markin’s loyalty, quiet, firm, and uncompromising, has already secured him a place among the most distinguished political figures of this generation. In a political culture often weakened by opportunism, his conduct sends a powerful message: power may change, but character must not. Ghana needs more leaders like him. Loyal in friendship. Loyal to principle. Loyal to the country.
