Afenyo-Markin: Parliament Will Act (Cocoa Farmers Must Be Paid Promptly!)
Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has said that Parliament will take strong action to make sure cocoa farmers get the money they are owed. He is worried about delays even though the sector has recently undergone reforms. At the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Thanksgiving service after Mahamudu Bawumia was elected as flagbearer, he criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, saying that farmers need their payments right away, not just talk. He said that each cocoa farmer is losing 10 million cedis per bag because of the delays. He also said that Parliament would keep a close eye on the situation in the coming week and make sure the government pays on time.
