Gov’t to Extradite Russian Over Leaked Videos (Sam George Vows Swift Justice for Victims)
Samuel Nartey George, Ghana’s Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, has said that the government has started the process of sending a Russian citizen back to Russia. The person is accused of secretly recording and posting private videos of Ghanaian women online. George promised that the person would face the full force of the law. At the launch of the Horlap Innovation Experience, he said that the actions in question were illegal under Ghanaian law and that the government would work with INTERPOL and Russian officials, including the Russian Ambassador, to bring the suspect back to Ghana. He said that John Dramani Mahama’s government is dedicated to upholding the rights and dignity of its citizens. He also said that the Cyber Security team at the ministry is gathering evidence for prosecution and that the state is ready to try the suspect in absentia if necessary. The coordinated response, which also includes the Gender Ministry, shows the government’s determination to see the case through to its legal conclusion and improve digital safety enforcement. Authorities see the allegations—reportedly involving luring women, recording them without their consent, and publishing the material for money—as serious violations of privacy and criminal law.
