Julius Debrah apologises to Church of Pentecost: ‘Mavis Awusi’s jab at Chairman Nyamekye was an unintended slip.’
Julius Debrah has apologised on behalf of government to the Church of Pentecost over controversial comments made by Mavis Awusi concerning its Chairman, Eric Nyamekye. Addressing a thanksgiving service at the Pentecost International Worship Centre in Trasacco on April 26, he described the comments as an unintended “slip” and sought for forgiveness, adding that the comments were not meant to undermine the church and he was optimistic about reconciliation. It followed public debate on Apostle Nyamekye’s comments on the environmental impact of illegal mining (galamsey), which elicited a response from Dr Awusi and public backlash. But the church leader insisted he bore no ill will, and would prefer to move on. Dr Awusi has also since apologised in the face of wider concerns about the environmental effects of galamsey.
