From Rejection to Relief: Court Grants GH¢100K Bail to Awiti-Baffoe
Lead counsel Enoch Anhwere Afoakwa has described the GH¢100,000 bail granted to senior nursing officer Salomey Awiti-Baffoe by the Adenta Circuit Court as a relief, following the High Court’s earlier rejection of her bail application.
Mr Afoakwa said the legal team was grateful to the court and was working to meet the conditions required for Ms Awiti-Baffoe’s release.
“We are extremely happy and grateful to the court for granting Madam Salomey Awiti-Baffoe bail this morning,” he said.
The court granted her bail in the sum of GH¢100,000, with two sureties, each of whom must be a civil servant earning at least GH¢3,000 a month.
Mr Afoakwa said the legal team was taking steps to secure suitable sureties and complete the administrative procedures required for her release.
“We believe the process will move quickly so that the liberty ordered by the court can be restored,” he said.
Ms Awiti-Baffoe is facing a charge of allegedly publishing false news in connection with the Ghana Jollof TikTok case.
Her lawyer said she had been affected by her time in custody, but the immediate priority was to secure her release and allow the legal process to continue.
The case has been adjourned to February 18, 2027. The prosecution is expected to proceed with the matter and provide the defence with the relevant disclosure documents.
