Aboagye Defends Kojo Bamba, Says He Could Become NDC Chairman
Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the newly elected Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has defended the party’s First Vice Chairman, Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, against criticism from NDC Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Gbande, who described his election as “backward politics.” Speaking on The Pulse on JoyNews, Mr Aboagye questioned the basis of Mr Gbande’s comments and said Mr Bamba’s intelligence, creativity, innovation and political experience made him capable of holding a senior position in any political party. He said Mr Bamba could even become Chairman of the NDC without serious competition, adding that his recent election, in which he secured 3,116 votes against 13 other candidates at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, demonstrated his ability to mobilise delegates and compete effectively. “Respectfully, Mustapha, respectfully, respectfully, Bamba could be a chairman in the NDC any day, any time, without competition,” he said.
Mr Aboagye further rejected the suggestion that a person’s background or professional status should determine their ability to attain political leadership. Citing NDC MP Francis-Xavier Sosu’s rise from a difficult childhood to Parliament, he argued that people from less privileged backgrounds should also have opportunities to rise within political parties. He questioned whether Mr Gbande’s comments suggested that individuals who are not lawyers or who do not come from conventional professional backgrounds cannot attain senior political positions. According to him, ordinary Ghanaians, including market women, mechanics, carpenters, tailors and young people from less privileged communities, are watching how political parties treat such individuals. Mr Aboagye concluded by reaffirming his confidence in Mr Bamba’s ability to defend the NPP and protect the party’s electoral interests, saying, “Any day, anytime, Kojo Bamba will protect the NPP and protect our ballot.”
