EOCO Returns Cash and Gadgets Seized from Former Buffer Stock CEO

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has returned cash and personal belongings seized from former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Buffer Stock Company, Hanan Abdul-Wahab, his wife and their driver during an ongoing investigation. The items returned include £6,700, GH¢2,750, two laptops and at least six mobile phones. EOCO seized some of the belongings in 2025, while additional items, including cash, a laptop and two mobile phones, were taken on July 4, 2026, when Hanan was arrested at the airport. He was detained for four days before being released after he was stopped while preparing to travel abroad for medical purposes under a court-authorised arrangement.

The return followed a petition by Hanan’s lawyers, Dame & Partners, to EOCO Executive Director Raymond Archer and Attorney-General Dominic Ayine, requesting the release of the items. The lawyers said the continued retention of their client’s personal belongings lacked sufficient legal justification and raised concerns about items they considered unnecessary for the investigation. They said Hanan reported to EOCO on July 9 to retrieve his belongings but was given only an empty purse, a wristwatch and his boarding pass. The lawyers subsequently sought clarification on the whereabouts of the remaining items, leading to their eventual return.
