Afenyo-Markin: Gov’t Must Deliver Real Jobs (Youth Disappointed by Broken Promises)
Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the NPP MP for Effutu and the Minority Leader in Parliament, has criticized the Government for not keeping important campaign promises, such as “one job,” “women banking,” and raising cocoa producer prices. He says these broken promises have left many young Ghanaians disappointed. During the UCC Summit on February 21, he spoke at the opening of the Young Commons Forum (YCF), University of Cape Coast Chapter, and said that the government’s push for a “24-hour economy” was a distraction from more important issues like the rising cost of living and new fees like GH¢1 per data. He told the government to focus on making people’s lives better, driving development, and creating jobs. He also told young people to get involved in business, work hard, and start their own businesses. John Noble, the president of YCF, called for stakeholders to work together more closely to improve youth development through policies that can be put into action. The UCC Student Representative Council also gave Mr. Afenyo-Markin an award for his work on national development.
