COPEC Boss: Fix Water Woes—Utility Costs Still Squeeze Ghanaian Households!

Duncan Amoah, the Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), has asked the government to keep its focus on essential services that directly affect the cost of living. He said that prices are falling in some areas, but that irregular water supply in many communities across Accra and other parts of the country has forced residents to rely on private water tanker operators, which has greatly increased household costs. He said, “While other things are coming down, there is also the need not to lose focus on the others that we seem to be paying more for.” There is a problem with getting water in the country. It’s true that in many parts of Accra and the rest of the country, the taps just aren’t working. So people have started to buy water from these truck drivers. It raises the cost of living a lot. He said, “I think we should not lose sight of the micro indicators, which are the things that also affect Ghanaians’ wallets or jobs. One of these is water.”
