NPP’s Haruna: AG Must Clarify Ofori-Atta’s Visa—‘No Revocation, Just Expiry!
Haruna Mohammed, the Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asked Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, to give accurate and truthful information about the U.S. visa status of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. Dr. Ayine had said that the visa was formally revoked because of ongoing investigations and that Ofori-Atta had until November 29, 2024, to leave the U.S. However, on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, January 10, Haruna Mohammed called the Attorney General’s explanation misleading, saying that the visa had simply expired and that an extension had been requested. He warned that such misstatements undermine public trust and create confusion, saying, “The Attorney General has not been truthful to us, saying that his visa was revoked. He never lost his visa. It was no longer valid, so he asked for an extension. ICE did not know he was applying when they arrested him. If your visa is taken away in the US, they will find you. How can they take away his visa and still let him stay or even give him a deadline? He said, “The Attorney General should be very honest with us; we need correct information.”
