Effutu Chief to Youth: Embrace Global Fame, But Stay True to Ghanaian Roots!

Neenyi Ghartey VII, the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, has told Ghana’s young artists to look for opportunities around the world without losing touch with their cultural roots. He said that social media’s glamorized portrayal of foreign lifestyles is causing many young people to forget about their heritage. At the 30th anniversary of his enstoolment and a fundraising lunch at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, UEW, he told Graphic Showbiz that Ghana’s growing influence in music, fashion, film, and digital content must be based on originality and culture, not imitation. He also said that tradition is a strength, not a weakness. He also said that social media can be helpful, but it also makes it harder to find a balance between modern influence and identity. He also stressed that the entertainment industry is still an important way to protect and record Ghana’s culture.
