EOCO Freezes Wontumi’s GH¢50m (Part of GH¢1.5bn Assets Seized in Corruption Probe)
Felix Kwakye Ofosu has said that about GH¢50 million that belongs to Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, has been frozen as part of ongoing investigations into financial crimes. He told PM Express on Joy News that the Economic and Organized Crime Office took the action to protect money that is thought to be connected to possible corruption and financial wrongdoing. He said that similar amounts have been found in other investigations, such as those involving the National Service issue and former National Signals Bureau head Kwabena Adu-Boahene. He said that the freeze is part of assets worth about GH¢1.5 billion that are currently held by the authorities. He explained that these assets can’t be permanently returned until a court rules that they were obtained illegally. Asset tracing is still going on as part of efforts to secure suspected proceeds of crime during ongoing investigations.
