Fuel Prices Set to Drop—Petrol, Diesel, LPG Cheaper at Pumps from Jan 1
Starting on January 1, 2026, the prices of petroleum products at the pumps are expected to drop slightly. JoyBusiness has seen the latest outlook report from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), which is where the projection comes from. This report helps oil marketing companies decide how much to charge. Expected Decrease The cost of gas is expected to drop by 2.40% to 4.80%, which would bring the price at the pump to about GH¢11.90 per liter. Diesel prices are expected to drop by as much as 3.77%, which means that a liter could cost around GH¢12.50. It is also expected that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will drop by up to 2.19%, which means that a kilogram will cost about GH¢13.40. Why The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies says that the expected drop is mostly due to falling prices of crude oil and finished petroleum goods on the global market. Market data show that prices for refined products around the world fell a lot during this time. For example, petrol prices fell by 9.17%, diesel prices fell by 8.11%, and LPG prices fell by 3.82%. The cedi has also gotten stronger against the US dollar, going up more than 3% in the last three weeks. The local currency went from GH¢11.14 to GH¢10.50 to the dollar for the pricing window on January 1, 2026. This was an 8.20% gain. This is one of its best performances in the last few months, and it’s a big improvement over the GH¢14.84 it had during the same time last year. JoyBusiness has heard from over 200 oil marketing companies that they will start lowering prices this weekend after making the necessary changes at the pumps. Some people say that the changes could happen as soon as Monday. Some marketers have also said that more cuts could happen if the cedi keeps going up or stays the same against the dollar.
