Ghana to Earn Minimum $10.5M from FIFA Just for Making 2026 World Cup
Ghana is set to earn at least $10.5 million just for qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following FIFA’s approval of a record $727 million prize pool for the expanded tournament. The FIFA Council’s decision marks a 50% increase compared to the 2022 Qatar World Cup and reflects the larger 48-team format that will take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Out of the total, $655 million will go to teams based on performance, with squads finishing 33rd to 48th getting $9 million, those ranked 17th to 32nd receiving $11 million, plus an extra $1.5 million for preparation costs, ensuring every qualified team earns at least $10.5 million. The top prizes are $50 million for the winners, $33 million for the runners-up, $29 million for third place, $27 million for fourth, $19 million for quarter-finalists, and $15 million for round-of-16 teams. FIFA says the new payout system aims to share World Cup revenues more widely as the tournament grows. For Ghana, this means that qualifying is not just about sports—it’s also a major financial opportunity worth a minimum of $10.5 million even before the tournament starts.
