Go Solar, Go Digital! Ghana Launches New App for Easy Net-Metering Sign-Up—Now Households & Businesses Can Earn Credits for Solar Power. Big Step Toward a Greener Future!
The government has introduced a new digital application in order to support the country’s transition to renewable energy by making it more convenient for homes, companies, and institutions to enroll in the national net-metering program.By allowing customers who produce their own electricity using solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to transmit surplus power into the national grid in return for credits, net metering helps to lower their total energy expenses.During his speech at the inaugural event, which took place in Accra on Thursday, Richard Gyan-Mensah, who is the Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, said that the purpose of the newly constructed web site was to simplify applications and to increase the rate of solar adoption on a considerable scale.”With the assistance of this easy-to-use portal, residential customers, commercial enterprises, and industry stakeholders will be able to submit applications for smart meters that are compatible with both renewable and captive energy systems. According to what he said, it would also make it possible for us to monitor every solar power system that has been installed throughout the country. He pointed out that the program is in line with other, larger-scale attempts to diversify the energy mix of Ghana, and that it has the backing of the government of Ghana, the African Development Bank, the Climate Investment Funds, and the government of Switzerland.Simone Giger, the Swiss ambassador, said that the digital platform would improve document submission, system monitoring, reporting, and data management in order to increase accountability along the renewable energy value chain. Eunice Biritwum, who is now serving as the acting executive secretary of the Energy Commission, offered more information by stating that the application would remove administrative delays and improve the coordination of organizations that are collaborating with one another, such as the Energy Commission and the Ministry of Energy.
