Gov’t to Upgrade Meteorological Agency (Authority Status to Boost Forecasting, Disaster Response)
Samuel Nartey Georg, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, has said that he wants to turn the Ghana Meteorological Agency into an Authority to give it more legal power and make it work better. He said that the upgrade is meant to make weather forecasting, climate monitoring, and disaster preparedness better because extreme weather, flooding risks, and changing rainfall patterns are becoming more common. He spoke in Accra at the launch of the 2026 Meteorological Awareness Month and the 2026 Seasonal Forecast for Southern Ghana. The goal of the move is to make early warning systems stronger and give farmers, aviation, maritime, and urban planning stakeholders important weather information.
