HON. AFENYO-MARKIN’S 2025 HEALTH INTERVENTIONS: A DEFINING LEGACY OF CARE AND IMPACT IN EFFUTU
In 2025, the Health Sector of the Effutu Constituency witnessed a remarkable transformation under the purposeful leadership and compassionate intervention of Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu. His contributions during the year were not symbolic gestures, but strategic, data-driven, and people-centered interventions that directly addressed access, infrastructure, disease control, and inclusive healthcare delivery.
A major milestone was the commissioning of the Dr. Apetorgbor Dzodzegbe Health Centre at New Ateitu, a modern primary healthcare facility designed to serve thousands of residents within New Ateitu and surrounding communities. This facility significantly reduced the distance-to-care ratio, decongested existing health centers in Winneba, and aligned with Ghana Health Service (GHS) targets on primary healthcare expansion and Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
In February 2025, at the peak of cholera response efforts, Hon. Afenyo-Markin made a timely and decisive intervention by donating GH₵200,000 to the Effutu Municipal Health Directorate. This funding directly supported emergency response activities, including public health education, provision of logistics, sanitation measures, and case management. At a time when cholera outbreaks pose serious public health risks, this intervention contributed to containment efforts and demonstrated strong collaboration between political leadership and health authorities, consistent with the Ministry of Health emergency response frameworks.
Further strengthening healthcare delivery, Hon. Afenyo-Markin donated hospital beds to the Effutu Municipal Health Centre, addressing a critical infrastructure gap and improving patient admission capacity, dignity of care, and staff efficiency.
Beyond infrastructure, his interventions touched lives at the most vulnerable level. Through support for rehabilitation services, disability inclusion, and care for children living with cerebral palsy, he brought hope to families often neglected in mainstream health programming. Additionally, under the Effutu Health Shepherd Initiative, he provided financial support for surgical operations and medication for fibroid and hernia patients, conditions that disproportionately affect women and low-income earners.
Perhaps most sustainably, the launch of the Afenyo-Markin Care Foundation in 2025 institutionalized his health vision. The Foundation continues the fight against Hepatitis B and other diseases, complementing national disease control programs and community screening efforts championed by the GHS and WHO. In sum, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin’s 2025 health interventions stand as a powerful testament to responsive leadership, strategic investment, and genuine compassion. His impact in Effutu is measurable, visible, and deeply felt, deserving loud commendation and national recognition.
