Judicial Service Staff Declare Indefinite Strike (Unpaid 8-Month Arrears Spark Nationwide Shutdown!)

On Monday, January 19, judicial service workers all over Ghana will go on an indefinite nationwide strike because they haven’t been paid their back wages. The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) said that the government did not pay eight months’ worth of salary that was due last year, even though the President approved a 10% base pay raise for 2025. Other sectors got the adjustment right away, but judicial staff didn’t start getting it until September 2025, and the promised back pay for January to August is still not paid. JUSAG says that management promised to pay by December 2025, but the money was never released: “The holiday month of December was one of the hardest times for staff who were very hopeful, only to be met with shock and disappointment,” the strike notice said. The National Executive Council of JUSAG said that judicial staff are “critical to the maintenance of law, order, and stability.” They decided that the strike will continue “until our demand for payment of the eight months’ salary arrears… is fully met.”
