Mahama’s Health Agenda Takes Off: Savannah, Oti & Western North to Get First Regional Hospitals

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, said that the building of three new regional hospitals will begin in the year 2026. The facilities would be located in the Savannah, Oti, and Western North areas, which currently do not have adequate regional hospitals. He said that a budget of GH¢600 million had been allotted for the first phase of the project in the 2026 budget during his speech at the Government Accountability Series. This initiative is a part of President Mahama’s strategy to enhance referral services and guarantee that all citizens have equitable access to healthcare services across the nation. Furthermore, he gave the assurance that the government will finish all of the health projects that are now underway as well as those that have been left unfinished. These projects include, but are not limited to, the La General Hospital, the Komfo Anokye Maternity Block, the Sewua Regional Hospital, Agenda 111 projects, and different CHPS complexes. In addition to the infrastructural drive, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will launch free basic healthcare services next year in order to enhance early treatment and lessen the load on big hospitals. According to the minister, these initiatives will have a positive impact on the overall healthcare system and will make it easier for people to have access to vital services, particularly in places that are not currently receiving enough treatment.
