NPP Calls in CID Over Alleged Poll-Rigging Plot—Party Demands Swift, Impartial Probe!

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to look into claims that there is a plan to rig its presidential primary, which is set for January 31, 2026. The request comes after a petition that Alex Kwaku Tetteh, a member of Ken Ohene Agyapong’s campaign team, is said to have written to the Electoral Commission. In it, he claimed that officials of an aspirant and alleged EC officials were involved in schemes and secret dealings to undermine the process. William Yamoah, the PEC Secretary, wrote a letter on January 6, 2026, saying that the party had also received two videos making similar claims. He urged the CID to start an immediate, thorough, and unbiased investigation, saying that the claims raised serious concerns about the credibility and integrity of the electoral process. The NPP said that the petitioner should face harsh penalties for making false claims, and that those who are found to have done wrong should face strong and legal action.
