NPP’s Richard Nyama: Dr. Amin Adam Earned Finance Role (Merit, Not Favouritism)

Richard Nyama, a top member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized Nyhiaso MP Dr. Stephen Amoah for saying that former President Nana Akufo-Addo chose Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam over him for the Finance Minister position. Nyama said that the claims were false and didn’t take merit into account.

Nyama wrote on Facebook on January 12 that Dr. Amoah’s comparison of himself to Dr. Amin Adam was not fair because Dr. Amin Adam had already shown that he was very knowledgeable about economics before he was hired. He said that the choice of the former Finance Minister was based on skill, not race.

Nyama said that Dr. Amin Adam took office during a tough time for the economy and got things done. He pointed to the economy doing better at the end of 2024 as proof of his good leadership. He said that Dr. Amin Adam should get credit for the economic gains that were linked to NPP policies.

He also asked if Dr. Amoah was the right person for the job, saying that appointments should be based on skill and performance and that stories that hurt the party’s record of managing the economy should be avoided.
