ORAL cases hit court this week, Skytrain, Akonta Mining, and cybersecurity scandal all on the docket.
Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai, in a Facebook update, said the court will continue hearing several high profile cases under the government’s anti-corruption and anti-illegal mining initiative Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL). “During the period, several hearings involving corruption, illegal mining and cybersecurity-related offences will be held across various courts,” he said. Criminal Court 4, where proceedings are expected to continue on May 11 in the Skytrain case involving former GIIF CEO Solomon Asamoah, alongside the Akonta Mining case involving Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako and others over alleged illegal mining activities. The case of the former Director General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu Boahene and two others in the cybersecurity software scandal is expected to continue at Specialised Court 1 on May 12 and 13 while the Skytrain case is also expected to continue. Also scheduled are additional proceedings on May 14, in addition to continued hearings in the cybersecurity case and the Akonta Mining matter (which also includes a case management conference). The ORAL initiative is one of the State’s ongoing efforts to investigate and prosecute alleged corruption and illegal mining offences.
