Three pharmacies suspended from NHIS over fraud suspicions, NHIA warns: cheat the system, risk 10 years in prison.

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has placed three pharmacies under immediate temporary suspension from the National Health Insurance Scheme, effective Thursday, May 14, 2026, following the discovery of material irregularities in claims and service transactions. The affected facilities are Deldem Pharma Limited at Iron City, Weija; Paramedica Pharmacy at Guggisberg Avenue, Ablekuma; and Desh Chemist at Amasaman along Odumase High Street. According to the NHIA, the suspensions were triggered by a routine claims verification exercise that raised a reasonable suspicion of fraud and abuse under the NHIS Provider Service Agreement. During the suspension period, the pharmacies are barred from providing services or dispensing medicines under the scheme, with NHIS members advised to access services from other accredited providers. The Authority warned healthcare providers against fraudulent practices, noting that offenders risk fines or imprisonment of up to ten years, and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent use of public funds in delivering healthcare services nationwide.
