Boako Drops Budget Bomb: Gov’t Missed 50% of Its 2025 Targets!

Tano North MP Gideon Boako has criticized the government’s performance in the fiscal year 2025, claiming that at least half of the budget’s goals were not met. He said that the Finance Minister has to be held accountable for the large discrepancies between forecasts and results during the parliamentary discussion of the 2026 budget. According to estimates, over half of the 2025 budget’s predictions were not met, he said. According to Dr. Boako, this deficiency casts doubt on the efficacy of policy implementation and damages the legitimacy of the government’s economic planning. He emphasized that the Finance Minister’s previous stance, which made fun of his predecessors for failing to meet goals, was now showing irony. He questioned, “How does Minister Ato Forson feel after just a year when he has also significantly missed the majority of his macro-fiscal targets?” The MP pointed out that failing to meet these goals has broader effects on public trust and economic stability. He noted that the underlying strategies used to get such results seem dubious, especially in areas where the government claims success. He cautioned that “there are issues with the foundations deployed to meet some of these targets,” contending that ostentatious accomplishments do not result in true economic advancement. Dr. Boako emphasized that not meeting such a high percentage of budget estimates points to more serious structural flaws. He said that crucial industries were denied the resources required for expansion as a result of the misalignment between goals and execution. “The real sector cannot grow as planned when planned expenditures are not delivered,” he said.
