AYARIGA FIRES SHOTS: ‘Agyapa Wanted Future Gold; We’re Using Today’s Oil to Fix Today’s Problems!

Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader, has supported the government’s choice to spend some of the Heritage Fund for improvements in the electricity industry, calling it “innovative common sense.” He said that putting present oil earnings into important infrastructure is better than storing them in foreign accounts with low interest rates at the end of the discussion on the 2026 Budget. Ayariga said that this was different from the Agyapa plan of the previous NPP government, which he said wanted to use future gold royalties as collateral while not using current oil revenues. He stressed that the government’s plan will make the national grid stronger, increase power generation, make the country less reliant on expensive fuel imports, and save a lot of money, especially through the second gas processing plant, which is expected to lower costs and create thousands of jobs. He said that the previous government didn’t use national resources well, which led to high energy bills and a lot of debt. Ayariga said that the present strategy is strategic and focused on growth. He said that using the Heritage Fund in this manner is a daring but essential change in how the economy is run and a better method to utilize national resources.
