Minority’s Stand Pays Off! UG Political Scientist Hails MPs for Exposing Flaws in Renegotiated Lithium Deal—“Why Slash Royalties from 10% to 5%?” Public Demands Answers!

Dr. Joshua Zaato, a political scientist at the University of Ghana, has commended the Minority in Parliament for their consistent opposition to the renegotiated lithium agreement put up by the government. Dr. Zaato claims that the Minority’s steadfast position is the reason why the agreement is now being examined by the public. The government has been criticized by the Minority Caucus for decreasing the previously agreed upon 10% royalty fee to 5%. The caucus claims that this decision is unjustified, particularly since the mining corporation would still be able to earn a profit at the 10% rate, and that it leaves Ghana in a worse position. Zaato asserts that their hard resistance has been instrumental in bringing to light issues pertaining to the new lease with Barari DV Ghana Limited, which may not have been contested if it weren’t for their actions.
