Transport Ministry Probes GH¢2,500 MMT Bus Auction (Fairness and Due Process Under Review)

Joseph Nikpe Bukari, the Minister for Transport, has confirmed that an investigation has begun into the sale of over 300 Metro Mass Transit (MMT) buses that were allegedly sold off by the last government. The decision comes after MMT’s Deputy Managing Director, Haroun Apaw Wiredu, said that the buses were sold before the 2024 general elections, with some going for as little as GH¢2,500. Mr. Bukari told reporters in Accra on Monday, January 19, that the review is meant to find out if the auction values were fair and if the right procedures were followed. He said that the company’s management and governing boards have been told to look over the transactions again and suggest any next steps that need to be taken. He also stressed that the ministry’s main goal is still to improve public transportation services and help commuters with their problems.
