Gov’t to Build Cyber Warfare Center in Tamale (Mahama Unveils Major Defence Upgrade)

To improve border security and the country’s ability to deal with threats from outside, the government has said it will build Ghana’s first state-of-the-art cyber and electronic warfare center at the Tamale Air Force Base. President John Dramani Mahama said this on Friday, January 23, at the End of Year West Africa Social Activity (WASSA) 2025 at Burma Camp. He called the facility a big change in how Ghana’s defense and intelligence work, saying it has both surveillance and assault capabilities. He said that plans are in place to buy armored personnel carriers, strategic drones, and advanced communication systems to help with the project. There are also plans for bigger military upgrades, like offshore patrol vessels for the Navy, four new Eurocopter helicopters and an executive jet for the Air Force, and other important logistics. The President also said that two new military units would be set up in the Oti and Central regions. He called this move a proactive response to changing security needs and the need to strengthen Ghana’s national security framework.
