Lands Deputy Minister: Strengthen Stool Land Partnerships(Collaboration Key to Orderly Development)
Alhaji Yusif Sulemana, the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, has asked the Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands (OASL) to work more closely with traditional authorities, metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies, and other land sector agencies to improve the management of customary land and encourage orderly growth. At the OASL’s 2026 Annual Review Conference in Tutu-Akuapem, he said that about 80% of land is held by customary tenure. To promote peace, investment, and inclusive national development, as called for by the decentralization policy framework, stronger partnerships, trust, and coordination are needed. He also said that better capacity building, internal controls, and stakeholder engagement are needed to make services better. Dr. Gad Asorwoe Akwensivie, the Acting Administrator, said that the conference opened his eyes and promised to meet expectations. Stakeholders pointed out that poor logistics, a lack of public understanding of land tenure systems, and a lack of funding were major problems. The meeting was meant to improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in stool land administration across the country.
