Minority demands urgency on anti-LGBTQI bill, ‘Let’s finish this debate once and for all,’ Tampuli tells Parliament.

The Minority in Parliament wants the proposed anti-LGBTQI bill to be rushed through and passed with a certificate of urgency when the House meets again in May. They say this will bring an end to what they call a long national debate. Hassan Tampuli, the Gushegu MP and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, made the appeal during a meeting of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee with stakeholders on April 24. He said that the Minority agrees that the bill should be passed quickly, pointing out that Parliament has used similar methods for other laws in the past. Tampuli said that speeding up the bill would help solve a problem that has been in the public eye for a while. He also said that the legislative process could be finished quickly so that the president could sign it right away after it passed.
