La General Hospital back on track, Mahama promises a 2027 commissioning and a lifeline for 50,000 residents.

President John Dramani Mahama is sure that the La General Hospital will be rebuilt and ready to open by November 2027. He said this after visiting the project site. The President praised the contractors and workers for their steady progress and told them to keep it up so that the project could be finished on time. He was with Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh. He said that the hospital’s long closure has put a lot of stress on nearby health facilities, making it urgent to finish the hospital so that people in the area can get medical care again. President Mahama also talked about plans to turn the COVID-era emergency center at Burma Camp into a place to handle emergencies and speed up treatment. He also talked about the government’s broader focus on preventive care through the Free Primary Healthcare initiative. The Health Minister said that even though redevelopment started in 2020, problems with funding and payments slowed things down until work could start again in 2025, when the problems were fixed. He also said that once the facility is finished, it will be able to serve more than 50,000 people in La and the surrounding areas.
