National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has urged political parties to caution and discipline their supporters to ensure public discourse remains respectful and lawful amid rising concerns over inflammatory political commentary. Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on April 30, he warned that unchecked insults and offensive remarks could create an unruly society and negatively influence younger generations. Vanderpuye also referenced Ghana’s Cybersecurity Act, describing it as “very punitive,” and advised political parties to encourage members to understand its provisions to avoid legal consequences. His comments follow the remand of Bono Regional NPP Chairman Kwame Baffoe over alleged misinformation and offensive remarks against a judge, a development that has sparked political debate, with former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia warning that Ghana’s democracy and free speech are “under siege.”
