Adorye Blasts Ghana Water (Calls for Management Overhaul Amid Persistent Water Shortages)
Hopeson Adorye, the Director of Field Operations for the United Party, has called for strong action against the management of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL). He says that the company’s ongoing water shortages are a “clear negligence of duty” that continues to hurt ordinary Ghanaians. He also says that citizens should not have to pay for the company’s mistakes because “Because of their failure, people now have to travel extra distances and spend more money just to get water.” You are only making things harder for them. On Tuesday, January 23, he talked about his time in East Legon on The AM Show. He said that residents there now rely on water tankers. He said, “From October 2025 until now, not a single drop of water has passed through my tap.” He was shocked that he got a water bill from Ghana Water even though he hadn’t received any water. He said, “I will go there myself and ask them to change it because this is unacceptable.” He criticized the habit of only blaming the government, saying, “We always say the government is not doing anything, and that is part of the problem.” He also called for people to confront failing institutions through collective action, like protests, and said, “We cannot live like this.” He also asked, “Every year the government makes budgetary allocations to Ghana Water.” So the question is, what are they doing with the money and how are they doing it? He also called for a complete change in management, saying, “These people must be fired, and we should bring in young people with ideas and brains to fix the system, not people in their 60s who are messing up our lives.” He warned that without quick changes and accountability, people’s trust in important state institutions will continue to fade.
