NPP’s Richard Nyama: Dr. Amin Adam Chosen on Merit (Ethnicity Claims Are Baseless)

Richard Nyama, a key member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized Nyhiaso MP Dr. Stephen Amoah for saying that former President Nana Akufo-Addo chose Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam as Finance Minister based on race. Nyama called the comparison between the two “misplaced and disrespectful.” Nyama denied the claim in a Facebook post on Monday, January 12. He said that Dr. Amin Adam earned the position through hard work and skill, pointing out that he had long shown exceptional intelligence and economic insight. He said that Dr. Amin Adam took office when Ghana’s economy was in serious trouble and was able to stabilize it. Improvements seen in late 2024 show that he was a good leader. Nyama asked why Dr. Amoah would downplay this contribution when he admitted that the current government is benefiting from NPP economic policies. He also said that Dr. Amoah would not have inspired public confidence as Finance Minister and that Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam should get credit for the economic recovery.
