COKA URGES NPP LEADERSHIP TO PRIORITISE RECONCILIATION AND UNITY AHEAD OF 2028 ELECTIONS

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, has called on the newly elected national executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prioritise reconciliation and internal unity as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.

Speaking to the media after the party’s national delegates conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman stressed that the NPP must put aside internal divisions and strengthen its collective resolve to challenge the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Appiah commended efforts to bring contestants together following the conference but urged the new leadership to demonstrate sustained commitment to reconciliation beyond the election of national officers. He noted that the party’s ability to unite former opponents would be critical as it prepares for parliamentary primaries and the broader national campaign.

UNITY MUST GO BEYOND WORDS

The call for reconciliation comes at a crucial time for the NPP, as the party seeks to consolidate its internal structures and rebuild its collective strength ahead of 2028. COKA emphasised that unity must translate into practical action, with party leaders ensuring that no faction or group feels sidelined in the party’s decision-making processes.

He further observed that the support shown by delegates for the party’s flag bearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, reflected a shared commitment to the NPP’s electoral ambitions. He expressed confidence in Dr Bawumia’s prospects in the 2028 elections, describing the atmosphere at the conference as an encouraging sign of the party’s readiness to move forward together.

Mr Appiah also praised the conduct of the aspirants and delegates, noting that their willingness to participate in the democratic process demonstrated an understanding of the need to place the party’s broader interests above individual ambitions.

A UNITED FRONT AGAINST THE NDC

With the conference held under the theme, “One Party, One Purpose: United for Victory,” COKA urged the newly elected executives to make the theme a guiding principle in their leadership.

He stressed that a divided party would struggle to mount an effective national campaign, while a united and well-coordinated NPP would be better positioned to present its alternative policies and vision to the Ghanaian electorate.

As preparations for the parliamentary primaries and the 2028 general elections gather momentum, the Ashanti Regional Chairman’s message is clear: reconciliation must be deliberate, inclusive and sustained.

The newly elected leadership must therefore turn the spirit of cooperation displayed at the conference into lasting unity, ensuring that internal competition does not undermine the party’s collective ambition to return to power in 2028.
