NPP Suspends Parliamentary Campaign Activities Ahead of Selection Process
Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has directed all prospective parliamentary aspirants, their agents and supporters to halt campaign activities immediately, warning that defaulters risk disciplinary action that could affect their eligibility to contest. In a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, the party said it had received reports of premature campaigning in several constituencies, in breach of its regulations and code of conduct. It said the activities threatened fair competition and could undermine party unity and discipline ahead of the official selection process.
The directive bars aspirants and their supporters from displaying campaign posters, banners and billboards, organising rallies or constituency tours, soliciting support from polling station executives, distributing inducements to delegates, and running paid media or social media promotions. Party officers at polling station, electoral area, constituency, regional and national levels, as well as TESCON, have also been told not to endorse aspirants online or facilitate early campaigning. The NPP said the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary selection process would be announced in due course, while constituency and regional executives have been tasked with ensuring strict compliance.
