Court orders extradition of Abu Trica to US over romance fraud, lawyer hints at Supreme Court appeal.

The decision was disclosed in a Facebook post by his lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, who indicated that the case had been fast-tracked and suggested the ruling could be challenged at the Supreme Court.

“I am out of Ghana for work. I just heard that the case of Abu Trica has been fast tracked and a judge has just ordered his extradition. Hmmm. FBI 1 – Abu 1. I guess this issue goes to the Supreme Court,” he wrote.

Kumi has remained in custody since December 2025 after the United States requested his extradition over allegations of romance fraud. He was previously granted bail of GH¢30 million by the Accra High Court, with two justified sureties, after spending several months in detention.

The latest ruling paves the way for his transfer to the United States, although legal experts believe the decision is likely to face an appeal.

Further court proceedings are expected to determine whether the extradition will go ahead or be suspended pending a review by a higher court.
