GH¢350m released from contingency fund for flood relief, Mahama orders emergency response as Parliament approves withdrawal.
The Ministry of Finance has released GH¢350 million from the Contingency Fund to the National Disaster Management Committee to support emergency relief operations and flood mitigation measures in response to the recent devastating floods that impacted several parts of the country.
The funding follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama to Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson to mobilise resources to provide assistance to affected communities and enhance efforts to minimise the impact of future flooding.
The Ministry stated that the withdrawal was made in line with Article 177 of the 1992 Constitution. It explained that the Finance Minister obtained approval from Parliament through its Finance Committee before authorising the release of the funds.
