Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, told Parliament that the government paid GH¢2.69 billion to National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) service providers and GH¢1.5 billion to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund in 2025. He said that the government is committed to bringing back payment discipline and better managing claims to avoid late payments and make sure that services are always available. In 2020, historical payments were GH¢1.37 billion; in 2021, they were GH¢1.101 billion; in 2022, they were GH¢963.23 million; and in 2023, they were GH¢2.25 billion. There was a big shortfall of GH¢638.97 million in 2022. Mr. Akandoh said that the Ministry of Health has included the project for the district hospital in Anyaa Sowutuom in its 2025 budget, done a special audit with Architectural and Engineering Services Limited, and will finalize a strategic implementation plan while looking into other funding options, such as private sector support, to make sure it gets done on time.
