MP Fordjour Calls for Halt to Security Recruitment (Wants Probe, Fee Refunds, Transparency)

John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has asked that the current recruitment process for Ghana’s security services be stopped right away and ended because he is worried about fairness and transparency. He told JoyNews that there should be a bipartisan investigation by Parliament and that all application fees should be returned to applicants. His comments come after the Interior Minister, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, said that almost 500,000 people applied for jobs, even though only about 5,000 positions were available. The exercise has led to hundreds of thousands of applicants being disqualified after aptitude tests, which has made applicants angry. Fordjour suggested getting rid of the current system and replacing it with one in which each security agency hires its own people and the Interior Ministry keeps an eye on the policies. He also called for a more open aptitude testing process that lets applicants know how they did right away.
