No NDC Member Behind EC Removal Petitions!” — Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu Sets Record Straight, Says Petitions Are Citizen-Led, Not Political.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, has refuted allegations that the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which is the party that is in power, or its leadership were involved in the organization of the petitions that called for the dismissal of Jean Mensa, who was the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), as well as her two deputies.Mr. Ofosu made it clear that not a single member of the NDC has been engaged in submitting any of the petitions while speaking exclusively to Abdul-Hanan Adam, the Presidential Affairs Correspondent for the EIB Network.”First and foremost, the New Democratic Congress has not submitted any petitions against anybody, including the chairperson of the EC, the deputies, and the special prosecutor.” He continued by saying, “As far as we are able to determine, not a single member of the NDC has submitted a petition in any capacity as a member of the NDC.”The minister went on to say that it is the belief of the administration that it has no knowledge of who the petitioners are.
“Actually, I have no idea who these petitioners are,” I said. “It is not a matter that the president has discussed with me or any other person.” Mr. Ofosu pointed out that it is not uncommon for political commentary to occur and that it is unrelated to the petitions, in response to the public complaints made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, about the ability of the Electoral Commission (EC). “Public authorities have been subjected to criticism on more than one occasion. “Nevertheless, it is not the case that the matters we brought up have served as the foundation for this petition.” He finished by emphasizing that the petitions are grounded in the interests of citizens rather than political politics. “Once a petition has been compiled and specific transgressions have been alleged by the inhabitants of the country, it becomes the responsibility of the relevant authorities—the Chief Justice in this case—to decide whether or not there is any justification whatsoever.” His comments come after seven petitions were submitted to President John Mahama asking for the EC Chairperson and her deputies, Dr. Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey, to be removed from their positions.
