Another petition lands! Kissi Agyebeng under FIRE — GHS364m spent, zero major convictions?! Ghana’s politics just got hotter!

In response to allegations of inefficiency, financial mismanagement, and subpar performance after four years in office, a petition has been submitted to President John Dramani Mahama demanding the dismissal of the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyabeng. On October 20, 2025, Simon Yaw Awadzi of COFIIG filed a petition that contends that despite receiving almost GHS 364 million in funding between 2021 and 2024, the Office of the Special Prosecutor has not submitted any audited financial records, nor have they secured any significant convictions or asset recoveries. It claims that Mr. Agyabeng is guilty of gross misconduct since he did not provide investigation dockets to the Attorney General, which resulted in delays in cases like as the extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. In addition, the petition expresses worry with the possibility of a conflict of interest that is associated with his candidacy, and it warns that this might result in selective prosecution. These worries divert attention away from previous 2024 petitions that were centered on problems of national security. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who holds the position of Minister of State for Government Communications, has verified that petitions that were submitted against the Chair of the Electoral Commission, the deputies of the Chair, and the Special Prosecutor have all been referred to the Chief Justice in order to take action.
