Ghana Gets a Security Upgrade! Netherlands Donates High-Tech Scanners to Combat Airport Drug Trafficking—A Big Boost for Border Protection!

In an effort to assist Ghana in its battle against drug trafficking at the airport, the government of the Netherlands has sent two contemporary security scanners to the Ministry of the Interior. The implementation of the state-of-the-art body and luggage scanners will result in the replacement of equipment that is no longer in use that was formerly operated by NACOC. This transition will contribute to the enhancement of detection capabilities, the acceleration of screening processes, and the restriction of the transportation of illegal narcotics as well as other types of contraband. On the twenty-eighth day of November in the year 2025, the Ministers for Foreign Affairs and the Interior, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, were the recipients of the contribution in the city of Accra. Foort van Oosten, the Dutch Minister for Justice and Security, said that the assistance demonstrates the Netherlands’ commitment to assisting Ghana in enhancing border security as criminal networks grow more complex. Muntaka Mubarak, the Minister of the Interior, expressed his gratitude and pointed out that the new scanners are built to more effectively detect illegal objects. He also said that qualified staff would be assigned to run and maintain the scanners. In addition, he said that the technology will be essential in helping Ghana take measures to prevent illicit drug transit from taking place at its ports. In addition, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, who is the Director General of NACOC, along with a number of senior authorities, were in attendance.
