Afenyo-Markin Hails Minority Whips (Calls Trio ‘Anchormen’ of Parliamentary Leadership)
Alexander Afenyo-Markin has said that the Minority Whips in Parliament are the most important part of his leadership. He stressed that a strong and coordinated whip team is necessary for the opposition to do its job well. On February 16, 2026, he spoke on Channel One TV’s The Point of View and praised Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Minority Chief Whip, for his organizational skills; Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, the First Deputy Minority Chief Whip, for his strong advocacy and procedural knowledge; and Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the Second Deputy Minority Whip, for being a reliable leader. Afenyo-Markin called the three men his “anchormen” and compared the Chief Whip to a national security advisor. He also said that the Minority’s ability to hold the government accountable depends on a disciplined whip system based on parliamentary procedure and strategic coordination.
