Asantehene SLAMS Bono Minister: No Politician Allowed in Chieftaincy Affairs!”

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has publicly criticised the Bono Regional Minister for getting involved in the Sampa chieftaincy dispute by acting in his political capacity, saying that kind of political interference in traditional matters is wrong and cannot be accepted. Speaking during the last Asanteman Council meeting of 2025 at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, stated his worry that the minister, who happens also as trained in law, appears to have a personal stake in the matter, which makes his actions even more troubling. Otumfuo stressed that issues involving traditional leadership should be dealt with respectfully, according to both custom and the law, and kept free from political influence. He made it clear that no one – no matter their political title or personal interest – should meddle in matters of chieftaincy, which are rooted in long‑standing community traditions. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II urged politicians to focus on their national and personal duties and not to interfere in traditional leadership issues, reminding everyone that such disputes should be managed transparently and in line with tradition, without letting politics or personal motives interfere.
