Christmas tree controversy was a ‘propaganda campaign’, Paul Adom-Otchere defends airport spending: ‘Aesthetics pay for themselves.

Host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere has defended the expenditure incurred during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited and described the controversy surrounding the installation of a Christmas tree at Kotoka International Airport as a propaganda campaign. Despite public criticism about the festive decorations, the airport spent less overall that year, he told The Upside Down Show on Channel One TV in comments on May 17, 2026. He argued that investment in airport aesthetics was needed to improve passenger experience and increase revenue generation. Mr Adom-Otchere also said he was targeted by members of the National Democratic Congress because of his public support for former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The controversy started in late 2022 over allegations of financial impropriety in the purchase and installation of Christmas decorations at the airport but the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice later cleared GACL of any wrongdoing.
