Formalise anti-galamsey body by law, NPP MP Ampratwum-Sarpong urges L.I. to shield NAIMOS from political disruption.
Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Mampong, has urged the government to formalise the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) through a Legislative Instrument (L.I.) to enhance efforts to combat illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
Mr. Ampratwum-Sarpong, who serves as the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Select Committee on Lands and Natural Resources, stated that providing a legal framework for NAIMOS would clearly outline its mandate, powers, organisational structure, accountability systems, and operational independence. He added that such legal backing would also help ensure the continuity of anti-galamsey initiatives regardless of changes in government.
He made the appeal in a statement issued and signed in support of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s nationwide campaign against illegal mining.
